Day 1 (8/10/10)

On day 1 (Tuesday, August 10), we accomplished the following:
1.  Syllabus
2.  Assignment Sheet
3.  Objective: Students defined what American Government is (democracy, republic, federalism, etc); Founding Fathers created a new recipe of government using existing ingredients.


EXTRA CREDIT
Answer the following questions about the City of Bell:
1.  Where is Bell located?
2.  What controversy existed there this past summer?
3.  What current Attorney General of California has ordered an investigation into the activities in Bell?
4.  What could be his political motivation for launching this investigation?
5.  Write down 5 facts from this article.

Government: Mr. Brown (2010-2011)

Class Objective: For students to know and understand the basic principles, ideas, and workings of American Government according to the California State Standards.

Homework: Homework assignments are found on a separate assignment sheet. These assignments are due at the end of each week. Any late assignment will have point deducted. If the absence is cleared, no deduction will result.

Class Work: Everyday students will complete a quiz, quick write, and learning summary. In addition, students will copy the standard for that day and explain what it is. There will also be other class assignments; these types of assignments cannot be made up. All class work will be kept in a folder or section of a notebook specifically for this class.

Examinations: Along with the daily quizzes, other form of assessment will also be given. Included in this will be a district exam to test basic knowledge on the subject.

Grading: Grading will be based on the total number of points accumulated over the course of a semester. A standard scale will be used to determine the grade (I.E. – 90% or above is an A, 80-89% is a B, etc.).

Participation: As seniors, you will be expected to participate in this class. Be prepared to be called on; everything you do matters!
